Volunteers at the annual Home Free
Children’s Summer Event.

The gift of your time makes change possible for the men, women and children we serve. Here are some ways you can volunteer. We invite your ideas on how you can help. Please contact one of our programs at the numbers listed below.

Interpreters

We are always in need of language interpreters, to better serve our multi-cultural residents, including American Sign Language Interpreters. If you can donate your time to provide this invaluable service, please contact Katy Daniels at 763.559.1883


Hart House

  • Group Facilitators and Activity Coordinators - facilitate support groups, music and other creative groups; provide haircuts and makeovers for women.
  • AA/NA Facilitators - facilitate a weekly AA or NA meeting.
  • Special Events assistance (holiday activities, picnics, etc.)

Home Free

Home Free has many volunteer opportunities that range from one-time events to weekly or monthly ongoing volunteer positions, for individuals and for groups. Time commitments, training, and hours vary for each position.

Volunteer Positions

  • Child Care Provider - provide childcare and structured activities for children
  • Women's Advocate - provide information and resources to women in the shelter
  • Legal Advocate - accompany women to hearings in family or criminal court
  • Immigrant and Refugee Program - provide advocacy for immigrant and refugee battered women, office assistance, transportation, and group co-facilitation.
  • Speakers Bureau - conduct presentations on domestic violence for community groups.

Ideas for Groups

  • Collection drives for specific items such as baby products, diapers, hair care products, socks, underwear, and old cell phones, etc.
  • Create housekeeping starter kits for women when they move into new homes. 
  • Redecorate bedrooms or other areas of the Shelter
  • Gardening and landscaping projects at Home Free Shelter

Home Free also offers internships at the Shelter and Community Program.

Mission Nursing Home

  • Bingo Callers
  • Volunteers to assist with outings
  • Special Events volunteers
  • One-to-one visitors with residents
  • Guest speakers on topics, such as fishing, hunting, camping, outdoor activities, art, history.
